Herman J.
Berke Dead
Herman J. Berke died Tuesday morning of heart trouble. He was up
town on the street the day before and was talking of reviving his mill
interests here. His death was unexpected and was quite a surprise to
the community.
He was a miller by trade and understood the milling business thoroughly.
He built a large flour mill in Montrose and operated it until the grain
became scarce here.
He leaves his wife and a family of six children to mourn his loss.
He was a man of considerable enterprise. He erected a large building
in Montrose which was used as an opera house until the war came an and
then it was sold to Oscar Hegre for a garage.
Mr. Berke was a man of decided opinions and withal, had many
friends. He will be missed in business circles and the usual
sympathy is extended. He was about 65 years of age.
